SMART Careers – 7 Top Paying Jobs that also Impact Others

By David S. Chang

When it comes to what we do for our career, most people tend to focus on those jobs that they think they will enjoy and also make money. While there’s nothing wrong with going down that route, there is something else that can influence what work you do: the impact it has on other people.

The jobs that fundamentally improve humanity always rank highly on the job satisfaction lists, and, in fact, many of them are also well paying. Below, we take a look at a few options for you to consider.

Medical Care

There’s arguably no profession more respected than medicine. People who work in this industry are committed to helping people when they’re at their most vulnerable. Because it’s such a valued job, positions in this field are also well-paying. Now of course, this is a large and diverse field. You could be conducting research, or on the front line helping patients.

Mental Health Care

By 2030, depression will be the most common illness in the world. Fortunately, there are people on hand to help people through psychological difficulties. {sychologists and psychiatrists are a big part of ensuring that we are able to take care of our mental health. Practice Match lists jobs for psychiatrists. As with other positions in the broader medical field, these jobs are also well-paying.

First Responders

First responders play a very important role. They are the first line to help anyone in an emergency. This can be EMTs, firemen, policemen, and others that are there 24/7 to help address any problems.

Teaching the Next Generation

One of the most important jobs that impact others is teachers. If you become a teacher, then you’ll have daily opportunities to set the next generation on the right path. You would arguably have more influence on them than anybody else, save for their parents. It doesn’t really matter whether you’re teaching children, teenagers, or young adults — your influence can be significant.

Politics

People often have a pretty low opinion of politics and politicians in general, and it’s not hard to see why. But it’s always worth remembering that for the most part, politicians do the best they can to help the community. They have a tremendous capacity to positively influence the lives of others through public policy. So instead of complaining about the state of the world, why not get involved in politics yourself? It’s easier than you might think.

Starting a Business

Many of our top technologies, innovations, and new products/services come from entrepreneurs with dreams of changing the world. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Mush, and Jeff Bezos are examples of entrepreneurs that had a dream to make the world a better place, started a business, and succeeded! You can be the next Steve Jobs!
